Flood amendments preparations
Mackay Regional Council recently provided a briefing on the Waterfront Priority Development Area Expression of Interest (EOI) process.
Council identified six properties it has provided as part of the EOI and advised it is seeking private sector proposals to develop the properties in keeping with the master plan for the waterfront.
The EOI is not restricted only to those sites and the council is open to proposals across the city.
Council is hoping to revitalise the city centre, engender tourism and outdoor dining in the riverside area, provide jobs for the future and flexible light industry activities in the Innovation precinct, and r connect North and South Binnington Esplanade and deliver a tropical open space with beach sports in the beachside precinct.
Council has also obtained an $8.86 million dollar grant to renew the Queens Park environs and propose $200 million dollars of total investment in infrastructure and public realm improvements as part of the Waterfront PDA. Council propose works to commence within 2 years.
The expressions of interest close on the 18th of August and will be evaluated against the PDA objectives, the capacity of the proponents, and the financial sustainability of the proposal. A short list of proposals submitted is expected in September for more formal tender consideration.
