Plan for a Strategy Released
The Regional Growth Management Strategy 2041 (RGMS) summary document has been released by Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC). It highlights the proposed phases for MBRC to provide new residential growth areas in the region.
The development of the RGMS will outline the council’s preferred sequencing strategy for the region’s future expansion areas.
The following areas have been identified by the strategy and recognised by the South East Queensland Regional Plan 2017 for the council to deliver:
- Caboolture West
- Morayfield South
- Narangba East
- Burpengary EastJoyner
- Warner
- Wamuran
- Pine Valley
- Elimbah North.
The RGMS Summary document outlines that the strategy will occur over four phases.
- Phase 1 will seek to confirm the planning assumptions, including residential land supply, constraints, etc
- Phase 2 will see the council prepare the draft RGMS 2041 based on information from phase 1
- Phase 3 will see the draft RGMS 2041 undergo public consultation and will set out the appropriate program;
- Phase 4 will finalise and implement the RGMS 2041 which will inform an amendment to the current planning scheme or resolve to prepare a new planning scheme.
The summary document indicates the RGMS is scheduled to be completed by 2021.
The Moreton Bay Branch committee has previously written to council expressing strong concern regarding the lack of well serviced land supply in the region and the concerning impacts this is having in regard to housing affordability.
The committee will continue to engage council and has received a commitment to be able to provide expert input into the planning and growth assumptions (phase 1) of the RGMS 2041.
