Main Roads results a priority
Assisting projects to get timely and balanced approvals from the Department of Transport and Main Roads is a priority for the Institute.
The Institute has had a regular series of meetings with the department for some time now that is working through issues facing members around timeliness of applications, coordinating between the department and councils on projects, the high cost of works to upgrade intersections, getting modelling right up front, transport assessment arrangements, signage and access issues, and consistent decisions for projects.
The Institute’s CEO recently undertook additional meetings with key department staff to emphasise the importance of facilitating the development industry and reasonable costs to allow development activity and jobs to flow. The meetings undertaken in the lead up to the State Election highlighted the need for action and responsiveness to new development.
A key focus was getting a better understanding of issues in the northern SEQ corridor and attention to road issues in Townsville. The department, to their credit, gave undertakings to work with the Institute and further information on progress will be provided.
