The Institute has written to the State Government on the long-awaited review of the Wide Bay Burnett Regional Plan.

Our submission proactively outlines both the Bundaberg and Fraser Coast Branch priorities, including key infrastructure projects that would add significant value to the regions’ economies.

The list of priorities includes:

  • De-maining Quay Street, Bundaberg Central
  • New Bundaberg Level 5 Training Hospital
  • Bundaberg East Flood Levee
  • Infrastructure to support the growth of the Bundaberg Port
  • Redevelopment of the city centre of Hervey Bay
  • Flood proofing Torbanlea-Pialba Road
  • Redevelopment of the Hervey Bay Airport
  • Boundary Road extension
  • New hospice in Hervey Bay

The Hinkler Regional Deal will be key in realising these pieces of infrastructure. In turn, these projects will have a positive impact on local and regional employment in both the Bundaberg and Fraser Coast regions.

The Institute has also urged the State to address both the emerging and future trends in job rich industries to allow the Wide Bay Region to fully capitalise on future jobs. Prioritising and planning for the region’s population growth and investigating greater choice in housing is also necessary to address the ageing population.
