Strength in hydraulic numbers
A coordinated Cairns Townsville Mackay (CTM) Water Alliance Design and Construction Code represents the opportunity for regional consistency and certainty. The code’s adoption would provide a consolidated set of technical standards for water supply and sewerage infrastructure for use across North Queensland.
The Branch recently provided comments on the City of Townsville’s (council) proposed amendments of schedule 6.4 development manual planning scheme policy, and adoption of the Cairns Townsville Mackay (CTM) Water Alliance Design and Construction Code.
The Institute is supportive of these city plan amendments to achieve good development outcomes. The submission follows an industry workshop where representatives of the Institute we able to attend and provide feedback in person.
Some concern was raised that the CTM code uses some south east Queensland elements that may not suit the North Queensland environment and could impose significant risks and complexities for delivering essential infrastructure.
We also encouraged further engagement opportunities on city plan amendments and their details.
The Institute submission is available here.
