Flood amendments preparations
Mackay Regional Council has commenced preparations to amend the current Planning Scheme with public consultation and commencement set for late 2020.
Known as Minor amendment 4, its purpose is to amend the Flood and coastal hazard overlay – flood hazard maps to reflect new flood mapping, update cross-references and make minor adjustments to the wording of code provisions which reference a number of planning scheme policies (PSP’s).
The change to the flood hazard mapping reflects two flood studies that were adopted by council in February. The Sandy Creek Catchment Flood Study covers the stormwater catchment over parts of Eton, Drapers Siding, Homebush and Chelona before flowing into the Coral Sea at Dunnrock. The Rocky Dam Creek Catchment Flood Study covers a stormwater catchment in the Koumala area, following the alignment of the Bruce Highway.
The Mackay branch will work with council on Minor amendment 4 and will provide details to members once available during its public consultation.
Property owners affected by changes to flood hazard mapping are required to be notified. Letters have been sent to property owners affected by these changes. FAQs have been prepared related to the amended flood hazard mapping. See the FAQ about the amended flood hazard overlay mapping here.
An administrative amendment 7 is also proposed to update the planning scheme version number throughout the document and update the page numbers as necessary.
If you have any questions relating to the council’s amendments, please contact the branch.
