Understanding Queensland’s Reforms to Foreign Property Taxes: An exclusive member briefing

Foreign surcharge relief: What developers need to know

Join the Queensland Revenue Office (QRO) for an exclusive UDIA Queensland member webinar unpacking recent reforms to the Additional Foreign Acquirer Duty and Land Tax Foreign Surcharge regimes.

Announced in the Queensland Government’s Mid-Year Fiscal and Economic Review in December 2025, the reforms introduce new and expanded pathways for foreign-owned, Australian-based developers to seek relief from foreign surcharges.

For members navigating project feasibility, acquisition decisions, or surcharge relief applications, this session will provide practical clarity on what has changed, who may be eligible, and how the updated processes will operate.

In this session QRO will explain:

  • What has changed under the Additional Foreign Acquirer Duty and Land Tax Foreign Surcharge regimes
  • How the reduced dwelling threshold, from 50 to 20 dwellings, and five-year averaging will operate in practice
  • Updated relief pathways for residential developers, including pre-approval processes
  • New service standards, eligibility criteria, and transitional arrangements.

This is an opportunity to hear directly from QRO, gain clarity on eligibility and application processes, and ask general questions about how the reforms will operate in practice.

To register, email events@udiaqld.com.au. Registered attendees will be sent the webinar link before the session.
