The Gold Coast Airport is progressing work on its southern terminal expansion project, which comprises a three-level terminal building with four aerobridges.
About 1,500 jobs are being created by the southern terminal expansion, with 250 workers onsite at peak times and 200 ongoing jobs when the terminal opens. Overall, about $500 million is being invested in the airport precinct by airport owner Queensland Airports Limited.
Once the expansion is complete in 2021, focus will turn to the refurbishment of the existing terminal, which will provide additional retail and dining space.
The terminal will house the airport’s international operations and have swing gate capability, meaning it can also service domestic flights.
