Deputy Premier announces intention to address structure planning and infrastructure planning issues.
The Institute has welcomed the Deputy Premier’s announcement today introducing statutory Priority Growth Areas (PGA) to address industry concerns about the lack of coordination of land use and infrastructure planning in the state’s growth regions.
The Institute has repeatedly called for a range of mechanisms to address the confusion and delays currently experienced by members when bringing land to market in growth areas.
This announcement is also consistent with the Institute’s calls for a state-led solution and role in the structure planning and infrastructure planning of the state’s growth areas.
The announcement comes at a time when much of the state is experiencing a COVID-induced housing crisis and the Deputy Premier’s announcement provides reassurance that the government is open to structural change to the planning system to ensure that we are better prepared for market shocks in future.
The first PGA is Caboolture West, where a new approach to structure planning is currently being trialled. The Institute has encouraged the government to urgently announce additional trials, including unlocking underutilised areas within the urban footprint and Priority Future Growth Areas.
