31 October 2019, Industry Leaders Research Group Staff Briefing: We presented the ILRG’s second round of findings for 2019. This round of findings focused on modern living, including that oft-quoted phrase “cookie-cutter development”!
31 October 2019, meeting with Ipswich City Council: I met with Garth Moore from Ipswich City Council and discussed the direction of the ILRG’s research in 2020.
31 October 2019, meeting with Patrick Condren: I met with Labor’s candidate for the 2020 Brisbane mayoral election, Patrick Condren. As the 2020 State and local elections approaches, I appreciate the chance to meet with candidates and discuss the challenges our industry faces and discuss the work of the Research Foundation.
1 November 2019, 25th Anniversary Mitchell Brandtman Awards for Excellence: I attended the Institute’s Awards. I was incredibly proud of the high calibre of entries this year. Our members continue to raise the bar, creating incredible communities for Queenslanders. It was a privilege to celebrate these achievements.
4 November 2019, meeting with Peet: I met with ILRG member Peet to discuss the direction of the ILRG in 2020.
7 November 2019, meeting with Consolidated Properties Group: I met with Consolidated Properties, also a member of the ILRG, to discuss the direction of research in 2020.
7 November 2019, meeting with Ausbuild: I met with Matt Loney from Ausbuild to discuss the schedule of qualitative research we are forming for the ILRG in 2020.
12 November 2019, lunch with the Reserve Bank of Australia: I attended a lunch hosted by the Reserve Bank of Australia to hear from the Bank’s Deputy Head of Economics, Merylin Coombs. Merilyn presented the Bank’s 2019 Statement on Monetary Policy and an assessment of current international and domestic economic conditions. The current financing landscape is of great importance to our members and I valued the opportunity to understand the bank’s perceptions of the Queensland market.
13 November 2019, meeting with Cr Matthew Bourke: I meet regularly with Councillor Bourke to discuss Brisbane City Council planning matters.
13 November 2019, meeting with Pask Group: I met with Dean Pask of Pask Group. Pask Group has been a stalwart of development both in Queensland and nationally for many years. I appreciated Dean taking the time to meet with me and discuss the current opportunities and obstacles faced by their business.
14 November 2019, meeting with Strata Community and Real Estate Institute of Queensland: I meet regularly with representatives of other peak representative bodies to discuss common challenges faced by our respective memberships.
14 November 2019, meeting with David Janetzki, Shadow Attorney General and Shadow Minister for Justice: I met with Mr Janetzki to discuss the challenges faced by our members in his local electorate of Toowoomba South as well as our members across Queensland.
15 November 2019, meeting with Department of Environment and Science: Along with a member of the Institute, I met with representatives of the Department of Environment and Science to discuss an offsets case study, the current offsets review, and receive an update on the State’s biodiversity strategy.
16 November 2019, meeting with Tim Mander, Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Treasurer: I met with Tim Mander to discuss the work of Institute including the recent release of the Research Foundation’s Community Engagement Toolkit.
20 November 2019, meeting with the Fraser Coast Regional Council: I travelled to Hervey Bay to participate in the inaugural working group meeting held as part of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Institute and council.
20 November 2019, meeting with the UDIA Queensland Fraser Coast Branch: While I was in town, I had a chance to meet with the Fraser Coast Branch committee and hear about the unique challenges our members are facing in this beautiful part of the world.
22 November 2019, site tours: Along with Institute staff, I visited several sites across Brisbane. It is incredibly energising to view the communities our members create, and these tours were no exception!
25 November 2019, meeting with Moreton Bay Regional Council: Along with Moreton Bay Branch President Keith Cairns, I met with the Moreton Bay Mayor, Cr Allan Sutherland and other council representatives. We discussed the recent research into infrastructure priorities commissioned by the Institute.
27 November 2019, participating in member workshop: I participated in an internal workshop held by a member and discussed the value of effective community engagement.
27 November 2019, meeting with David Crisafulli, Shadow Minister for Environment, Science and the Great Barrier Reef, Shadow Minister for Tourism: I met with David Crisafulli to discuss the work of the Research Foundation and the challenges being faced by our members within his portfolio.
28 November 2019, meeting with Boulder Capital: I met with ILRG member Boulder Capital to discuss the direction of research for 2020. After two rounds of ground-breaking research in 2019, we are very excited about the potential direction for next year’s research.
