Sunshine Coast identity Sam Sheppard was the only nominee to take out two awards during the evening.
"The calibre of the nominees was outstanding, as are the projects they have been instrumental in making a success, so the process of selecting winners was truly a difficult task," said Warren Harris, President of
UDIA (Qld) and member of the judging panel.
Sam's company, The Buildmore Group, was announced winner of the Workplace Award which recognises the outstanding performance of a workplace in supporting and encouraging female staff through the development of company culture and policies.
The Buildmore Women into Building Housing Showcase is a small lot home designed, constructed and supplied predominantly by women.
"The initiative, spearheaded by Sam Sheppard, is truly an outstanding example of the potential for cultural and generational change in approaches to workplaces in our industry," the judges said.
"The impact of this project is extensive - providing opportunities for students in schools, TAFEs and colleges, through to designers, trades people, suppliers and industry partners.
"It is appropriate that The Buildmore Women into Building Housing Showcase be formally recognised for promoting the development industry as a positive career destination for women, and for the important role it has played in bringing about fundamental and effective change," said Warren Harris, as he presented the award sponsored by UDIA (Qld).
"It is truly deserving of this award."
The judging panel found that at an individual level, it was very difficult to fit Ms Sheppard's contribution, commitment, energy and achievements within the criteria of the seven award categories.
In recognition of her outstanding contribution to the development industry, Sam was presented with a one-off special award for Outstanding Achievement by a Woman in a Mentoring Role.
"Sam has become an ambassador for women in the construction and development industry across the country," the judges said.
"Her achievements are so significant and wide ranging that she is deserving of particular recognition in the form of this special award for her outstanding contribution to the development industry and the promotion of women in general.
"We are particularly impressed with the time and energy she spends mentoring women in the construction and development industry and disenfranchised youth in general."
At the conclusion of the ceremony, winners and guests enjoyed an elegant cocktail celebration overlooking Brisbane by night. Guests included Logan City Mayor Pam Parker, and Councillors Amanda Cooper, Krista
Adams and Nicole Johnston of Brisbane City Council, and Craig Butler from Gladstone Regional Council.
